Beef Research Programme

The Programme Leader, Sani Remilekun Tawakalit is a Senior Research Fellow in the field of Ruminant Nutrition at NAPRI. An astute leader who also serves as the Programme Leader of the Beef Research Programme of the Institute. She joined the services of Ahmadu Bello University in 2014. She had earlier bagged her BSc in Agriculture (2010); MSc, Animal Science (2014); and PhD (Animal Science), 2018 all from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She has taught and supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the department of Animal Science, ABU Zaria. A seasoned researcher who has published several of her research findings in reputable journals. Dr R.T. Sani is a member of the Nigerian Society of Animal Production (NSAP); Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN); Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) as well as the Society for Grassland Research and Development in Nigeria (SOGREDEN), She is married with children.

We conduct research into various breeds of cattle through breeding and selection, and nutritional and management packages. The beef potentials of indigenous breeds of cattle have been classified and cross breeding with exotic breeds is ongoing to upgrade their traits for beef production. The locations for cattle work are in Talata Mafara Outstation in Zamfara State and Shika in Kaduna State.
